Level measurement with radar - a success story |
|
After the first practical tests with electromagnetic waves carried out by Heinrich Hertz at the end of the 19th century, radar devices were developed primarily for military purposes at the beginning of the 2nd World War. (Radar: Radio detection and ranging - Detection and measurement of objects with the help of electromagnetic waves) At first, military use was confined to detecting flying objects and determining their exact position. Some years after the end of the 2nd World War, radar began to be used in weather forecasting and in targeting systems. Civilian use of radar, also called microwave technology due to its very high frequencies, also continued to be developed.
