The pulse radar measuring principle

The radar sensor emits short microwave
pulses in the direction of the medium,
which in turn reflects them. The running
time of the signals is the measure for the level.

The antenna system of the radar sensor sends out extremely short microwave pulses that are reflected by the product surface and received back by the antenna system. The time elapsing from emission to reception of the microwave pulses is proportional to the level in the container. A special time-stretching procedure makes a certain and exact measurement of the extremely short intervals possible.
The VEGAPULS radar sensors operate in the K and C-band frequency range. The compact, high-frequency K-band sensors are particularly suitable for applications in which very high precision is required. They are universally applicable, from storage containers to complex reactors. Low-frequency C-band sensors today are used mainly for niche applications. Due to their low emitting frequency, they can penetrate thick foam and heavy condensate deposits somewhat better.

Mounting options VEGAPULS 60

The VEGAPULS 60 radar sensors feature extremely versatile mounting options. On closed vessels, the sensors are typically mounted on a vessel socket. To make adaptation to existing process fittings as simple as possible, many different thread and flange sizes are available.
The mounting options are adapted to the respective application to ensure compliance with the different requirements for liquid and bulk solids applications.

Liquid applications

In most applications, the radar sensors are directly mounted on vessel sockets.
In open vessels, mounting is carried out very simply with the help of a mounting strap. The mounting strap is fastened to the vessel wall or vessel ceiling.

Hygienic process fittings are available for applications with stringent requirements on the cleanability of sensors. Optimal cleaning is guaranteed through front-flush sensor mounting

Radar sensors can also be fitted on standpipes or bypass tubes. Suitable antenna sizes are available for all the many different tube versions.

Bulk solids applications

In bulk solids applications, the antenna system of the radar sensors is aligned with the product surface or the container centre. Mounting fixtures for optimal orientation are available for the different radar sensors.

In open silos, the radar sensors can be very simply aligned to the product surface via a mounting strap.
